The program will become available to drivers in a total of 23 states across the country.

USAA has announced that it is expanding the availability of SafePilot in its auto insurance app. As a result, drivers in an additional seven states will be able to access the telematics feature.

This option will make it possible for drivers with safe habits to enjoy discounts on their premiums.

USAA, the insurer focused on military members and their families, will make the SafePilot auto insurance app available to a total of 23 states with the addition of the new 7 in the expansion. The new states being added to the list include Utah, Alabama, Oklahoma, Colorado, Nevada, Minnesota and Nebraska.

The USAA SafePilot telematics feature uses technology to reward policyholders with safe driving habits through discounts to their premiums. Members enrolling in the program, which is entirely voluntary, are now eligible to discounts on their policy premiums that are as high as 10 percent. From there, they can continue to enjoy greater discounts of up to 30 percent as the telematics collect and reflect their safe driving behaviors over time.

The SafePilot auto insurance app feature at USAA grew by more than 200 percent last year.

In 2020, USAA revealed that its SafePilot enrollments rose by more than 200 percent. Moreover, almost half the new policyholders in states where the telematics program is available chose to opt-in to participate in it.

The states where the feature is currently available include Virginia, Alabama, Utah, Alaska, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Arizona, South Dakota, Colorado, Oregon, Iowa, Oklahoma, Idaho, Ohio, Kentucky, Nevada, Maryland, New Mexico, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri and Montana. Moreover, USAA has announced that it intends to roll out the feature into the majority of states throughout the remainder of the year. This move is to meet the rising demand from its current and potential policyholders.

USAA is among a growing number of car insurance companies offering this type of telematics-based auto insurance app feature to allow safe drivers to reduce the Auto Insurance App - people using phonepremiums they pay for coverage. In the case of this San Antonio, Texas-based insurer, it focuses its coverage and financial services specifically to US military members and veterans as well as their families.
